GATHERER OF THISTLEDOWN


Goldfinch: quick as silver
on its mantle, on its collar;
fast wedgebill, seedeater,
gatherer of thistledown, it

flies up in a quick jerk
to wind-leap the air hurdles
and down to the outer twig
that flickers, hardly bends.
